BIOMIMICRY

Biomimicry Laboratory as a solution provider to industries and researchers that imitates the models, systems, and elements of nature for the purpose of solving problems. Among of the applications of Biomimicry covers are:

  • the use of nature inspired algorithms in finding an optimal design for buildings, prediction and forecasting earthquakes and also in project management efficiency.
  • self-healing materials, polymers, and composite materials which are used as engineering materials for infrastructures. Biomimicry also can be used to solve other engineering infrastructure problems such as durable materials for suspension bridge cables, and other purposes.

Most of the research work conducted was funded from local research grants such as Dana Kecemerlangan UiTM, e-Science Fund from MOSTI, MoHE (FRGS, RAGS). The numbers published papers in high impact factor journals, refereed journals, proceedings locally and internationally. For the time being, the outcomes of these research works were computational solution in which have been successfully won many awards.

 

SERVICES PROVIDED

  • To design, construct and conduct scientific computational research and performed mathematical modeling related to the structural components and building.
  • To provide consultancy work for industrial products to meet the requirement/ specification of the current standard or code of practice based on computational solution mainly nature inspired solution
  • To embark on collaborative research with varying research centers (HICOE), construction industries, local and international universities around the world.

HIGHWAY

Application of scientific principle to the safe and efficient movement people and goods.The focus of this laboratory is in the research, design and performance evaluation of improved material properties for highway pavements. This include the use of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP), environmental friendly materials, natural fibres and nano materials to improve the properties of materials used for road pavements.

TRANSPORTATION INFRASTRUCTURE & PAVEMENT ENGINEERING GROUP

The Transportation Infrastructure & Pavement Engineering Group primarily focused on research in Pavement Engineering particularly in the research, design and performance evaluation of recycled materials and eco-material usage towards maintenance and rehabilitation of pavement. The findings’ application would contribute towards the cost-effective idea in pavement construction without compromising the required quality.

INTELLIGENT TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS AND URBAN TRANSPORTATION GROUP

The Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and Urban Transporation Management Group involves in the integration of urban transportation system and issues related to users in handling the urban travelling matter. The ITS technologies are presently being used in the research of improving vehicle and pedestrian access and mobility. Travel behaviour, characteristic and demand as well as land-use planning would be the main focus to identify the effect of provision and management of the urban transportation system. An effective development and provision of transportation infrastructure (socio-eco friendly) to fulfill users need will be under the unterset of the group.

TRAFFIC ENGINEERING AND ROAD SAFETY INTEREST GROUP

Requirement of data, analysis of current and future demand and supply as well as impact of execution in terms of safety are all vital for the provision of an effective and efficient infrastructure. This scope will involve members from Traffic Engineering Analysis And Road Safety Interest Group. Research related to modelling and simulation are actively being conducted.

GEOMATIC ENGINEERING INTEREST GROUP

Geomatic Engineering refers to an integrated egineering approach for the measurement of, analysis and management of earth-based data. Among the areas of research include Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning systems (GPS) and Digital Mapping and Spatial Analysis. This research group focused on the Geomatic Engineering applications for Transportation Systems and Infrastructure.
